John Samuel Waters Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 22, 1946. He was the son of Patricia Ann, a fire protection manufacturer in his previous life. When he was seven years old, he was inspired by the film Lili in Puppets and began performing with his puppet at various parties. His education was completed at Calvert School in Baltimore, and he also attended Towson Jr. High School to pursue his degree. He also attended Calvert Hall College High School and finished his studies at Boys Latin School of Maryland.
