Career

In his professional life, John works as a football coach and television analyst. Furthermore, John began playing football in high school. Similarly, in college, he plated both offensive and defensive lines. In 1954, John played one season at the College of San Mateo before receiving a football scholarship to the University of Oregon. Similarly, he studied pre-law alongside childhood pal John Robinson. However, due to a knee injury and subsequent surgery, he was unable to begin his NFL career. Similarly, he played both offense and defense for the Mustangs in 1957 and 1958, earning a BS in Education in 1959 and an MA in Education in 1961. Similarly, after earning all-conference honors at offensive tackle, he moved on to the Cal Poly baseball team as a catcher.

Similarly, in 1960, John accepted a position as an assistant coach at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, a city on California’s Central Coast.
