On Saturday, while traveling in an Uber in Philadelphia, John Albert Laylo, a government attorney from the Philippines, was tragically shot. According to the New York Post, the 35-year-old prosecutor and his mother, Leah Bustamante Laylo, were on vacation in Philadelphia at the time of the incident. They were on their way to Philadelphia International Airport, where they would take a flight back to the Philippines.
Authorities in Philadelphia informed reporters at a news conference that a black automobile stopped behind the victim’s car at a traffic light and shot through the windows, wounding both John Albert Laylo and his mother.Both victims were taken to Penn Presbyterian hospital, according to Philippine Consul General Elmer Cato, John Albert Laylo for gunshot wounds and his mother for shrapnel from shattered glass. On Saturday at 10:33 a.m., John Albert Laylo was declared deceased. The matter is being investigated, but no names of prospective suspects have been provided by Philadelphia officials. According to the Washington Post, authorities think the murder was committed by accident.

According to ABC, John Laylo was a well-known lawyer in Manila, Philippines. From 2016 to 2018, he worked as a legislative assistant for Senator Leila De Lima before pursuing a master’s degree in International Business Law at Central European University. He received his diploma in 2019. His mother described him as a loving and kind guy in a Facebook post.
She stated:
“My kid has many dreams, goals, hopes, and everything!” He’s already gone. I can’t put into words how much grief and weight I feel in my heart. I spent hours writing this because I still can’t believe it occurred!”
She also said that the shooting had put an end to what had been a pleasant holiday in America.
She stated:
“I never imagined or dreamed that… the conclusion of our trip would be like this!” We traveled together and are scheduled to return home together! I’ll send him home in a box shortly!”
