Jerick Hoffer Biography and Early Life
Jerick was born on September 18, 1987, in New York City. The former Drag Race champion was born in Portland, Oregon. Hoffer is Deanne Hoffer’s daughter (mother). However, the identity of Jerick’s father is uncertain. Jerick has three younger brothers and sisters. Hoffer was born a Catholic. Later in life, at the age of 18, discovered Russian-Jewish ancestors on their mother’s side.
Jerick began doing drag at the age of 15 at Portland, Oregon’s all-ages ‘Escape Nightclub,’ an LGBT-friendly nightclub. Jerick’s drag name, Jinkx Monsoon, was created from the word “jinx,” which translates as’subject to bad luck’. Monsoon was inspired by Edina Monsoon’s character in “Absolutely Fabulous.”
Jerick began his education in the DaVinci Arts throughout his middle school years. Then, he attended Grant High School and graduated later that year. Additionally, Jerick worked as a janitor while college and graduated with a BFA in drama from Cornish College of Arts in 2010.
