Jim McElwain, the Central Michigan University coach, has been married to his wife, Karen McElwain, for more than 36 years. The couple met in college and married in 1998 after many years of dating. Their marriage produced three gorgeous children: two girls and one boy. Furthermore, Karen McElwain has been Jim’s most supportive spouse and active participant throughout his career. Jim McElwain, an American football coach at Central Michigan University, was born in Missoula, Montana, in 1962.
He began his football career as an outstanding quarterback at Sentinel High School, receiving all-state honors. He then played for Eastern Washington from 1980 to 1983. The 2015 SEC Coach of the Year worked as an offensive coordinator, quarterback, wide receiver, and assistant head coach at several universities including Montana, Louisville, and Alabama. In 2012, Colorado State University appointed him as head coach. Following his career at Colorado, the two-time SEC Eastern Division champion joined Florida. In 2018, the two-time MAC West Division champion joined Michigan as a wide receivers coach before becoming head coach in 2019.

Jim McElwain originally met his wife at Eastern Washington University. The pair first met when Jim was a graduate assistant at Eastern Washington. After four years of dating, the pair decided to be married in 1988. It is believed that Jim handed his wife Karen an article on the lives of coaches’ spouses before proposing. Since then, the pair has been happily married and the delighted parents of three children: a boy, Jerret McElwain, and two daughters, Elizabeth and Johanna McElwain. Karen has been very supportive of Jim and his profession. In one of the conversations, Jim discusses how his wife has been a key part of his career.
Jim said, “I am only successful because of her. She’s been with me all the way. She is concerned about the children we train as well as the individuals in these families who are participating in our organization, and she works hard to keep everything together.” Karen is also popularly known as “Mama Mac,” since she prioritizes providing motherly support to the team.

Michigan coach Jim McElwain responds to the viral picture, which seems to show Michigan football staff member Connor Stalions in Chippewas coaching clothes on the sideline during a game versus Michigan State. The NCAA is now investigating the Stallion’s suspected off-campus scouting and sign-stealing infractions.
McElwain acknowledged the university’s probe but did not identify Stalions, referring to him as “the sign-stealer guy.” He said, “Our team is doing all they can to get to the bottom of this. I absolutely do not condone that in any shape or form. I know that his name was not on any of the passes that were distributed. We will simply keep tracking it back. “And try to figure it out.”
