James Orsen Bakker was born in Muskegon on January 2, 1940. Furnia Lynette Furn Irwin and Raleigh Bakker are his parents. He attended Muskegon Public Schools and North Central University. In 1960, he met Tammy Faye at his university. He used to work in a department store at the time.
