Acosta was married to his longtime partner, registered nurse Sharon Mobley Stow. They both attended James Madison University. Acosta was born in Washington, DC on April 17, 1971, and raised in Virginia. He is of mixed ethnicity because his father is of Cuban descent and his mother is of Irish and Czech descent.
