Jid was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 31, 1990. Carl Louis Route and Kathy Jean Route were his parents. His family consists of seven siblings, with him being the youngest. He enjoyed listening to music as a child, especially hip hop and rap. Among the musicians he admired were Jay Z, Nas, and Mobb Deep.
