Jerry Mathers is a happily married man. He has three grown children with families and successful lives. When he is not attending events, conducting cruises with fellow actors, or attending other engagements, he enjoys spending time with his family. While Mathers appears to have had a good life, he has had problems with his romantic life and three wives.
Jerry Mathers Trouble With Second Wife
“Leave It to Beaver” star Mathers played Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver. Mathers then attended a Catholic high school. He majored in Philosophy and played football at UC Berkeley. In 1974, he married Diana Piatt, whom he met in college.
Sadly, they divorced in 1981. But he had worked as a commercial loan officer at a bank before moving on to real estate for better pay. 1978 saw him return to the stage with his on-screen brother, Tony Dow, in a production of Boeing, Boeing.
The show was a smash hit, so the actor did another, So Long Stanley. This led to a 10-week nationwide tour where he met his second wife, Rhonda Gehring.
She was 26 and in PR at the time. Mathers noted that while she had a business mind, her body was a topic for adults. In 1983, he joined The Disney Channel’s New Leave It To Beaver. The demands on weight management and a grueling work schedule were hellish for Mathers.
He left for work at 3 a.m. and returned home at 9 p.m. His wife would greet him at the door in only lingerie, but he could only think of food.
After 105 episodes, the show ended in 1989, and Mathers wanted a break from both work and social life. It was his early retirement, and he spent more time alone, away from his family.
But his friends knew what was best for him and forced him out of semi-retirement. In the early 1990s, he remarried his wife, healthy and fit.
The break had caused several cracks in their relationship. Behind Mathers’ back, Gehring had an affair.
They divorced in 1997 but had three children.
Jerry Mathers’s Children
Mathers has no children from his first marriage or Mednick. Noah, Mercedes, and Gretchen carry on his bloodline with Gehring. Noah is a Navy veteran who has worked as a production sound mixer in film and television for over two decades.
Mercedes also works in entertainment, but not on set. She is a human resources manager at Netflix and has two sons with Frank Favre.
Gretchen, 35, is married and has two beautiful children. Mathers clearly enjoys being a grandfather. He constantly gussies up his kids on Instagram.

While his second marriage crumbled, he found love again. Susie Mathers’ sister is to be thanked here.
Susie met Teresa Modnick in 2005. The Party, History’s Mysteries, and And Thou Shalt Honor star Modnick.
They dated for five years before tying the knot. They are still together and will mark their 10th anniversary in January 2021.
