The Great Giveback, a new home restoration program on HGTV, is back. Melissa McCarthy and her cousin’s sister Jenna Perusich will appear as remodeling experts in the program. The Great Giveback, starring Melissa McCarthy and Jenna Perusich, will premiere on Monday, June 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The two “design-obsessed” ladies will be featured in the new six-episode series, delivering surprise changes and makeovers to worthy families who have gone out of their way to aid others.
Who is Jenna Perusich? Melissa McCarthy’s cousin will provide expert commentary on The Great Giveback.
Jenna Perusich is a well-known actress who has appeared in films such as Superintelligence, Thunder Force, and Cafe Americano. Melissa McCarthy and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg are her cousins. Perusich earned a theatrical degree from Columbia College Chicago and relocated to Los Angeles around nine years ago to seek a career in acting. She also attended Groundlings Theatre & School to hone her abilities.
She loves I Love Lucy because “she [the heroine] took chances, was an artist, and battled for what and who she believed in while being loyal to herself.” She’s been a collector for quite some time. Perusich told HGTV about her I Love Lucy collection:
“Vintage dolls, lamps, throw blankets, jars, salt and pepper shakers, you name it, I’ve got everything!” I began collecting in fifth grade and continued into high school when people would give me items linked to the program for my birthday or Christmas. My favorites include a light styled like a TV with the words “I Love Lucy” on it and a cookie jar with Lucy, Ricky, Ethel, and Fred traveling in a vintage car.”
Perusich is a music fan who likes ’80s rock and doo-wop. Her all-time favorite songs are the Ronettes’ Be My Baby and Heart’s ’80s smash Alone. Dirty Dancing, on the other hand, is Perusich’s favorite film since it never fails to excite her with its music, drama, and dancing. Perusich looks up to her parents, who have been married for 37 years. She has learned a lot about art, design, fashion, and music from them. She hails from a large family, however, she did not grow up with her cousin Melissa. When she went to Los Angeles, the two connected as adults. She told HGTV about her friendship with Melissa:
“Melissa and I are 18 years apart in age, so we didn’t grow up together.” We became friends when I relocated to Los Angeles, where Melissa has served as my mentor, providing invaluable professional advice and assistance.”
Perusich is in a relationship with Andrew, a television marketing professional. She met her boyfriend via a dating app during the epidemic, and they had an “old-fashioned courting” since they couldn’t meet in person for a time and had to FaceTime instead.
The Great Giveback was inspired by Jenna Perusich.
Drew and Jonathan of Property Brothers encouraged Jenna Perusich to organize The Great Giveback with Melissa. Melissa was invited to suggest a loved one for a house remodel on Celebrity IOU in 2020, and this was their first HGTV appearance. They made the decision to renovate Perusich’s parents’ house. When asked about the Property Brothers, she stated:
“Drew and Jonathan is from the same boat. If they are going to accomplish anything, they will do it well and with all of their hearts. Nonetheless, they don’t take themselves too seriously and know how to have fun.”
The sisters aim to share the same chemistry as the show’s twin boys. On Monday, June 13, watch HGTV’s new home remodeling series, The Great Giveback. The program is also available on Discovery+.
