Jean was born in Casablanca, Morocco, on July 30, 1948. He is of Spanish-Andalusian descent. Jean’s mother died when he was a teen. His father was a linotype. Jean’s parents were Jerez de la Frontera natives. Later, to survive and find new jobs, they traveled to South Africa. They had fled Francoist Spain. Jean learned Spanish from his parents and extended family.
He moved to France around the age of 17 to study acting at the Cours Simon drama school. Jean also served in the French army as part of his family’s obligation after obtaining French citizenship. He attended Lycee Carnot and Lycee Lyautey for his education.
