IU Shares Her Experience At The Cannes Film Festival 2022

IU recently spoke about her experience at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, where she was showered with accolades for her performance in Broker, which went on to win the festival’s Ecumenical Jury Award. During the interview, the actress also discussed how she prepared for the film and even paid compliments to her senior, renowned actor Song Kang-ho. The singer-songwriter just made her Cannes Film Festival 2022 premiere among other members of Hirokazu Kore-Broker eda’s ensemble.

“At first, I didn’t believe it,” IU talks about her experience at the Cannes Film Festival 2022.

IU opened the June 12 interview, published by Newsen, by saying she experienced chills when Song Kang-name ho’s was revealed as Best Actor, and she was happy that the veteran actor acknowledged her in his victory speech. She also mentioned how many people had complimented her on her performance in the film, with some even speculating that she was nominated for Best Actress. IU, on the other hand, said that she had “no lasting thoughts” over not earning the honor.

The Lilac singer also said that at first, she assumed that only favorable remarks were being translated for her.

“When the film opened and I heard a lot of wonderful comments about my performance, I didn’t believe it at first.” I assumed they were just giving me the positive portions, but after running the remarks through a translation, I learned otherwise.”

She expressed her thanks to filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda after finding that this was not the case:

“It was interesting to me that people were pleased by my acting.” I wondered whether it had anything to do with the director. “I felt fantastic.”

So-young, IU’s role in Broker, is a single mother who has faced adversity. While her temperament is ferocious and abusive to seniors, she is also outspoken. The actress said that she used to practice cursing in front of her parents in order to seem more natural:

“Because my parents were the most objective, I practiced cussing in front of them.” “I recall asking them whether it sounded odd.”

She had previously said that she was anxious about playing So-young because of her personal links with a baby box charity, worrying that her character’s harsh words may harm the organization. Broker debuted at the 75th Cannes Film Festival to widespread praise. Song Kang-ho, a veteran actor, made history by winning the Best Actor award for the film, being the first Korean male actor to do so.

A glance at Broker’s plan

Song Kang-ho, Bae Doona, Kang Don-won, and Lee Joo-young also appear in prominent roles.

Sang-hyeon, a launderette proprietor who sells kids from a baby box to a church, is played by Song Kang-ho. Dong-soo, portrayed by Kang Dong-won, is his right-hand guy. Dong-soo works at the church and assists him in running the unlawful enterprise. Detectives Soo-jin and Lee, portrayed by Bae Doona and Lee Joo-young, are on the search for the two guys. The singer-actress has just completed another potentially renowned project, Dream, in which she co-stars with Itaewon Class actor Park Seo-joon. Extreme Job director Lee Byung-hun is in charge of the project.
