Malia Obama has been appointed as the writer for Donald Glover’s upcoming Amazon series. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the former confirmed the news, as well as praised former President Barack Obama’s daughter:
“She’s really an incredibly gifted individual.” She’s laser-focused and putting in long hours.”
Stephen Glover, Glover’s brother and regular collaborator who is also working on the new series, praised Obama’s writing abilities:
“I think she’s just someone who’s going to have a lot of nice things in the near future.” “I really like her writing style.”
Malia Obama was also encouraged to join the crew because she had a “unique viewpoint” that helped showrunners come up with interesting ideas:
“Donald often believes that viewpoint is vital and that a writers’ room needs individuals with varied perspectives. And, without a doubt, [Malia] has a distinct viewpoint on things. As a result, we were eager to hear her experiences and collaborate with her. We got a lot of fantastic ideas by listening to her experiences and involving her.”
He also said that Obama was treated equally by everyone on the squad and joked that she was not given any special treatment since she was the daughter of the previous president:
“Well, you know, we simply damaged her feelings,” says the narrator. We can’t be lenient with her just because she’s the daughter of the [previous] President. She’s not like that; she’s laid-back and calm. So it’s not an issue,’ he clarified. ‘She’s got a lot of great ideas.’ She’s fantastic. She’s simply another average individual like the rest of us.”
There isn’t much information about Donald Glover’s next series, but speculations claim it will be called The Hive and will center on a character that has a striking resemblance to Beyonce.
Malia Obama’s new employment comes after she graduated from Harvard University last year with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Prior to Harvey Weinstein’s arrest, she worked as an intern on Lena Dunham’s HBO series Girls in 2015 and at the Weinstein Company in 2017.
