He was born on April 23, 1946, in Queens, New York. Despite the fact that his family was Jewish, he spent his childhood as a Christian Scientist. He previously attended THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA’S WHARTON SCHOOL. He graduated from CUM LAUDE in 1967 with a minor in JAPANESE STUDIES and major in finance. He received his MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION degree when he was 23 years old.

He began working for the company CITICORP in 1969 and remained there until 1978. After that, he worked as a Vice President for the same company until 1985.
