What can we anticipate from the third season of His Dark Materials?
Season 2’s last episode, sahaettr, aired on December 28, 2020. In the episode’s post-credits sequence, Roger and Lyra summoned each other to an unknown place, and the teaser for season 3 of His Dark Materials depicts Lyra dreaming about their reunion. The speaker warns of a “true conflict on the way,” and Asriel vows that he is “gathering the best from every globe and will sacrifice all” to “guarantee triumph.”
“What are you ready to risk?” Asriel says, followed by Father President MacPhail (Will Keen), who wants Lyra “dead or alive.”
Meanwhile, Lyra fantasizes about reaching the kingdom of the dead, and her mother visits Asriel (Lyra’s father) and begs him not to fail their daughter. Furthermore, Will Parry (Amir Wilson) is heard planning to “take the knife to Asriel.” The trailer concludes with a striking line from Asriel:
“The authorities want you to feel terrified… The authorities, on the other hand, have no influence over us… We are now free!”
The third installment of Pullman’s trilogy, The Amber Spyglass, serves as the foundation for season 3. According to Goodreads, the summary is as follows:
“Will is the one holding the knife. His duty now, assisted by angels, is to bring that tremendous, terrible weapon to Lord Asriel – by the dying father’s instruction. But how can he go seeking Lord Asriel without Lyra? Only with her assistance can he unravel the numerous schemes and intrigues that have befallen him.”
It continues:
“The two great powers of the many worlds are preparing for war, and Will must locate Lyra, for the two are on their road to combat, an unavoidable trip that will even lead them to the land of the dead.”
The next four episodes of His Dark Materials season 3 are named The Intention Craft, Lyra, and Her Death, No Way Out, and The Abyss, after The Enchanted Sleeper and The Break.
