After designing his first amplifier in 1956, Hartley Peavey started Peavey Electronics, one of the world’s major producers and sellers of musical and professional audio equipment, in 1964. Peavey Electronics has been privately held from its inception, and it has developed tremendously since its modest beginnings in Hartley’s basement in the 1950s. He constructed his first guitar amplifier in the basement of his parent’s home when he was a youngster. In 1964, he established the first Peavey Electronics operation in Meridian, in the attic space above a music store. Hartley’s musical empire has grown over the last 30 years to include the manufacture of keyboards and percussion instruments, with manufacturing sites distributed across multiple countries.
