Gordon Lightfoot was born on November 17, 1938, in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. Gordon Lightfoot Sr. and Jessie Trill Lightfoot are Lightfoot’s parents. The Gordon was employed by a local dry claiming firm. Beverley Lightfoot is Lightfoot’s sister. His mother recognized his talent at a young age. He appeared on Too Ra Loo Rai in fourth grade. Gordon was a member of Orillia’s Paul’s United Church’s choir.
He won a competition for boys when he was only twelve years old. The singer teaches himself to play the piano and drums. Lightfoot performs in Muskoka, an Orillia resort. Aside from singing, Lightfoot was an athlete who competed in the shot put, pole vault, and football. Gordon received scholarships from the School of Music at McGill University and the University of Toronto.
