Chatman’s coaching career began at his alma institution. During the 2010 and 2011 seasons, he coached the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s defensive line. From 2012 to 2013, the 35-year-old served as a defensive graduate assistant at Ball State University, where he played an important role in the team’s straight bowl game berths.

According to sources, Florida wants to hire Tulane’s Gerald Chatman as defensive line coach under Billy Napier. Gerald Chatman is slated to succeed Sean Spencer, who was fired on November 27 after serving two seasons under Billy Napier. Although a formal contract between Florida and Chatman has not been signed, all sides have agreed that Chatman will take the coaching position.
