George Jung Biography
George Jung was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Frederick and Erminalia Jung. He grew up in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Jung did not excel academically, but he was a fantastic football player. Jung’s classmates referred to him as “a natural leader.”
Jung was arrested for the first time by a police officer for soliciting prostitution. Jung attended the University of Southern Mississippi after graduating from Weymouth High School in 1961. He pursued a degree in advertising but was unable to complete his studies. Jung became interested in marijuana as a recreational drug.
He was staying at the Playboy Club, where he met a connection who assisted him in consuming the marijuana. The link was apprehended for heroin smuggling. He did, however, inform the authorities about Jung in order to request a reduced sentence. Jung was sent to the Federal penal institution, ‘Danbury,’ after arguing with the judge about the purpose of sending someone to prison “for crossing an imaginary line with a bunch of plants.”

Career
George had attempted and failed to study advertising at the University of Southern Mississippi prior to his drug smuggling days. Soon after, he started a small-scale marijuana business. Jung was arrested after being caught with an excessive amount of marijuana, but his sentence changed his life forever.
Jung received an unintentional link while serving his sentence at the Danbury Correctional Facility in Connecticut, which could eventually lead to the formation of one of the world’s most powerful drug cartels. It was there that he met fellow inmate and Colombian Carlos Lehder, who later introduced him to cocaine. Both men were released around the same time, and after joining the Medellin cartel, they devised more efficient and evasive methods of bringing drugs from Colombia into the United States.
In an instant, their cartel, which supplied 80 percent of the world’s cocaine, was thriving, and the market expanded. Though Jung and Lehder eventually fell out as partners, it opened the door for Jung to work with Pablo Escobar, the famous drug baron, and narco-terrorist.
Jung was arrested after being found with several pounds of cocaine in his possession, but he later skipped bail. He quickly returned to his smuggling business, was apprehended, and sentenced to 60 years in prison. George Jung’s sentence was reduced to twenty years after he agreed to testify against former accomplice Lehder. In November 2014, he was released from prison. He was returned to a California jail two years later for violating the terms of his parole. After serving his sentence, the individual was released from prison in July 2017.
