George is the only child of his mother, Catherine Smith, and his father, John William Hill, was an engraver. He attended Board Ripple High School and obtained multiple college scholarship offers from top league colleges including Temple and Indiana.

His great-grandfather died only a few months after Hill decided to attend Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI), thus he never saw Hill play college basketball. He selected IUPUI over other opportunities. Hill led the IUPUI Jaguars to a tie for the conference’s top record in his second season. He was injured during the conference and had to redshirt his third year at IUPUI. He returned the next season and led the Jaguars to a school-record 26 wins.

Career

Despite having just one year of college left, Hill declared himself ready for the 2008 NBA draft. Then, after graduating from IUPUI as the sixth all-time leading scorer with 1619 points, he became just the second IUPUI player to declare early after Carlos Knox in 1997. Over the following two months, Hill worked out with other NBA teams.

On July 14, 2008, he scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in his first summer league game as a Spur. During the summer, Hill struggled with his shooting, hitting just 2 of 25 baskets and 1 of 6 three-pointers. In 2009, George spent the bulk of his summer working on his point-guard talents with player development coach Chad Forcier and his jump shots with Spurs shooting coach Chip Engelland. Hill set a career-high with 30 points in a 119-114 defeat against the Houston Rockets in 2011. At the NBA Draft on June 23, 2011, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers.

In 2016, George was traded to the Utah Jazz as part of a three-team deal involving the Pacers and the Atlanta Hawks. He signed a three-year, $57 million contract with the Sacramento Kings. In 2018, he was acquired by the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team trade with the Sacramento Kings and the Utah Jazz. Hill was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks at the end of 2018 as part of a five-player, three-team deal that also featured the Washington Wizards. In 2020, he was sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder once again. In 2021, Hill was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. On August 3rd, he was fired by the 76ers. On August 6, Hill agreed to terms with the Milwaukee Bucks on a two-year, $8 million contract.
