Franco Gatti rose to prominence after forming the band Ricchi e Poveri. Mr. Franco Califano, a Roman composer, came up with the band name. His band was well-known for producing songs in the bass, tenor, alto, and soprano ranges.
He traveled to many new nations to play on stage with his bandmates Angela Brambati, Angelo Sotgiu, and Marina Occhiena. His debut appearance with his band was at Cantagiro in 1968.
