Fernando Alonso’s parents, Jose Luis Alonso and Ana Maria Diaz Martinez have always supported their sons’ racing aspirations. Even Alonso’s father did not expect him to make it this far. Jose Luis Alonso often advised his kid to be thankful for where he’d gotten in life. His mother, Ana, was constantly interested in his racing career despite not having racing experience. Fernando even revealed in an interview that his mother would sew him racing clothes, altering the size of his overalls as he matured. On a recent podcast, the two-time F1 champion briefly discussed his family and their significance in his career.
During the interview, Fernando also said that if he could alter one aspect of his F1 career, it would be winning the championship with Ferrari. The Spaniard joined Ferrari in 2010 but departed without a trophy in 2014.
Fernando Alonso’s Parents: José Luis Alonso and Ana Maria Diaz Martinez,
Fernando Alonso’s parents, Jose Luis Alonso and Ana Maria Diaz Martinez reared two children in Oviedo, Spain. Lorena Alonso, the F1 legend’s elder sister, raised him. Jose Luis Alonso is a former go-kart racer who introduced his children to the sport. Alonso Sr had constructed a go-kart for his daughter, Lorena, but since she wasn’t interested, he put Fernando in it. And thus his passion for racing started. Fernando’s parents saw the desire and started bringing him to training when he was three years old.
Alonso told CNN that the weekends used to be a nightmare for his parents. They’d have to travel 10 hours with him to a race and then return home to be ready for work the following day. Fernando Alonso originated from a humble background, and his family did not have the wealth of the world’s billionaires or millionaires. at Oviedo, Jose Luis worked as an explosives expert, while Ana Maria worked at a small supermarket. Fernando Alonso has previously said that his parents’ first piece of advice to him was to remain modest. When Alonso made his Formula One debut in 2001, Jose encouraged him to enjoy the race since it may be his last.
Jose informed Alonso that if this was his last race, he could always claim he raced in a Formula One Grand Prix. Alonso claimed during the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix that his father did not believe he would make it as a professional driver. And, despite being proved incorrect, Jose is pleased with the result.
Fernando Alonso’s Relationship Issues
Perhaps being too successful in one’s work life hurts one’s personal life and relationships. In an interview in 2018, Fernando said that his concentration on athletics had left him with no friends, family, leisure time, privacy, wife, or children. Formula One has had a history of disastrous partnerships. In 2006, Fernando married Raquel del Rosario, a Spanish singer and actress. They divorced, however, five years later, in 2011.
He was later engaged to Lara Alvarez for 16 months until their engagement terminated in 2016. Alonso confirmed his divorce from girlfriend Andrea Schlager earlier this year, after a podium result in the Australian Grand Prix. Alonso met Schlager, a sports broadcaster with an F1 background, via their F1 contacts. Alonso revealed the divorce on his Instagram account, implying that it was amicable. The F1 driver has also maintained all of his Instagram posts with Andrea. Alonso was supposed to be seeing another Spanish pundit, Melissa Jiminez, two months following his separation from Schlager. Even though they have not declared their relationship, the media believes they are.
