Eric Holder was born on January 21, 1951. Eric Hampton Holder, Sr., and Miriam Holder were the lawyer’s parents. His parents are initially from Barbados. Eric’s father immigrated to the United States when he was 11. He had a job as a real estate broker.

A lawyer’s mother was born in New Jersey. He began attending public school when he was ten years old. The lawyer took part in the intellectually gifted school program. In 1969, he graduated from Stuyvesant High School. After graduation, he enrolls at Columbia University. Eric began playing basketball in his first year. Holder earned his B.A. in American history in 1973.

Eric earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1976. He worked for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund during his first summer and for United States Attorney during his second.
