Emilija Baranac, best known for her role as Gen in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before film series, will play one of the leads in the forthcoming Netflix comedy-drama Fakes. Baranac will play Zoe Christensen, a 17-year-old girl who, with her best friend Rebecca Li, stumbles into a successful false ID company. It flourishes until the feds arrive and their whole scheme explodes up in their faces.
The series will debut on Netflix on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 3:00 a.m. ET. Fakes are described as follows:
“Fakes is the tale of two adolescent best friends who unintentionally construct one of North America’s greatest phony ID empires.”
The program is directed by David Turko, with executive producers Simon Barry, Stephen Hegyes, Lilly Burns, Tony Hernandez, and Tabia Lau as Turko’s co-writer. It also stars Jennifer Tong from Legends of Tomorrow and Richard Harmon from The 100. Let’s get to know Emilija Baranac a little better ahead of the comic drama’s launch this Friday.
On Netflix’s Fakes, Emilija Baranac will play As Zoe Christensen.
Emilija Baranac was born on August 4, 1994, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She is most known for her appearances in Riverdale, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and To All the Boys: P.S. I’m still in love with you. When she was nine, she joined her first talent agency. Despite being born in Canada, her Serbian parents and background have made Serbian her first tongue. In the official trailer for Fakes, which was released a few weeks ago, leading lady Baranac’s Zoe Christensen describes the complex position when the authorities eventually catch up with them (both Zoe and Rebecca). She states,
“Yes, this is as horrible as it seems, and believe me, it just gets worse.”
This leads the spectator to a scene in which the two girls are unintentionally involved in a dangerous counterfeit conspiracy that jeopardizes their connection and possibly their futures. When only one of them gets imprisoned, the truth of their greatest lie becomes murky. Each occurrence is told from the occasionally contradicting perspective of a single individual.
Emilija Baranac allegedly described the titular characters in an interview, stating,
“The identical scenario will often appear in two episodes with minor variations. The audience is on the edge of their seat as Zoe and Rebecca struggle for the final word, attempting to find out what occurred.”
Baranac also touted the series as a “new and humorous perspective on a high school relationship,” adding that viewers would get a glimpse inside the “complicated and chaotic” lives of both main characters.
She continued,
“We hope that viewers will connect with the characters in some way, whether they see their own experiences depicted or are reminded of a buddy they haven’t heard from in a long time and feel motivated to reach out.”
