In 1986, Wright founded the hip-hop group N.W.A., an acronym for Niggaz With Attitude. The performers were Wright, O’Shea “Ice Cube” Jackson, Andre “Dr. Dre” Young, DJ Yella, MC Ren, and Arabian Prince.

The group released ‘N.W.A. and the Posse’ in 1987. It included productions by Dr. Dre and N.W.A, Eazy-E, Rappinstine, and the Fila Fresh Crew. The album was a massive success in the United States, earning gold certification. With their growing popularity, the group decided to venture into more contentious territory with the August 1988 release of ‘Straight Outta Compton.’ Music critics lauded the album for being groundbreaking due to its use of profanity and harsh lyrics.

Wright earned the moniker “Eazy-E” after his musical career took off. He released his debut solo album, ‘Eazy-Duz-It,’ in September 1988. Several of the songs dealt with the Compton gangster lifestyle, which struck a chord with many young people. The album was a smash hit in the United States, earning a double-platinum certification.

In 1990, N.W.A released another hit E.P., ‘100 Miles, and Runnin’. In 1991, ‘Niggaz4Life’ was released. The band disbanded shortly after the album’s release due to internal conflicts.
