Career
Draupadi Murmu was an assistant professor before joining politics and winning elections. She worked as an assistant professor at Rajgangpur’s Shri Aurobindo Integral Education And Research Centre. From 1979 until 1983, she worked as a junior assistant in the Odisha Irrigation Department. Draupadi then chose to resign from her teaching position and other government positions in 1983.
She first ran for office in 1997. Murmu was elected to the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat council in 1997. Her road to becoming a famous politician started here. Murmu was also chosen as the Bhartiya Janata Party Scheduled Tribes Morcha’s national vice-president. She served as the Minister of State with Independent Charge for Commerce and Transport in Odisha from March 6, 2000, until August 6, 2002. Draupadi was the Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development from August 6, 2002, until May 16, 2004.
She was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the Rairangpur Constituency in 2000. Draupadi Murmu went on to become the governor of Jharkhand after her political career. Draupadi began her tenure as Governor of Jharkhand on May 18, 2015, and will serve till July 12, 2021. She is said to be the first tribal female politician from Odisha to serve as governor of an Indian state. And if she wins the Presidential Elections in 2022, she would be the first tribal woman in India to serve as President.
