Don Gummer, full name Donald Gummer, was born on December 12, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, to parents William Adolph Gummer and Dorothy Gummer. His five brothers are William, Jack, Richard, Steven, and Mark. In terms of education, he attended Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Herron School of Art from 1964 to 1966. He then attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, and then the Yale School of Art, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) (MFA).
