Glenn Anton Rivers, better known as Doc Rivers, was an American basketball coach and former player who had been married to his college sweetheart Kristen Champion since 1986. They met when Rivers was a freshman at university in 1979.
They became fast friends and began dating soon after. However, because interracial relationships were frowned upon at the time, their union was heavily criticized. Despite the harassment and racial abuse they were subjected to, they bravely faced it and tied the knot.
However, in January 2020, the Los Angeles Clippers head coach was accused of infidelity. Rivers was on a dinner date with a mystery brunette at San Vicente Bungalow in West Hollywood. As they waited for the valet, the woman rested her head on his shoulder, and he lovingly wrapped his arm around her waist.
Rivers and Campion did not respond to the reports, but it was reported that the two had been living apart for the past five years and were currently going through a divorce.
The Rivers and His Sons
Rivers and Campion have four children, Jeremiah, Austin, Spencer, and Callie, who are athletes like their father. Jeremiah, their eldest son, played college basketball at Georgetown and Indiana University before joining the NBA D-Maine League’s Red Claws.
Austin, their second son, was a member of the Los Angeles Clippers from 2015 to 2018. Rivers became the NBA’s first father-son coach, and while fans expected the two to have a special relationship, Austin painted a different picture.
He admitted that his father did not share his life outside of basketball with him and that the two only knew each other through basketball. After beginning his career with the Los Angeles Clippers, Austin was traded to the Washington Wizards and the Houston Rockets. He is currently a member of the Denver Nuggets. Meanwhile, River’s third son, Spencer attended Winter Park High School and UC Irvine.
The Rivers and the Curry Clan
Rivers’ only daughter, Callie, is a volleyball player who attended the University of Florida and played professionally overseas after graduating. She also brought together two of the NBA’s most well-known and successful families.
She married another famous basketball family on September 14, 2019, when she married Dell Curry’s son and Stephen Curry’s younger brother, Seth Curry. Seth is an NBA player who currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers, his father-in-law coaches.
Austin told Undefeated that he was initially skeptical when he learned his sister was dating an NBA player. But when he discovered it was Seth Curry, he was overjoyed. Rivers is currently juggling his roles as a coach and a grandfather.
