Dick Wolf was the son of homemaker George Wolf and Marie G. Wolf. His father was Jewish and his mother was Roman Catholic. He was born in New York City. He went to Saint David’s School, The Gunnery, and the University of Pennsylvania for his education. He, too, attended Phillips Academy.

Dick Wolf became a script consultant for NBC’s Hill Street Blues in 1985. For the episode “What Are Friends For?” he received a Writers Guild and an Emmy nomination. Wolf eventually decided to start his TV and film production company, which he named Wolf Films.
