On July 13, 2015, the Greek cooking expert shocked her fans and possibly her children by apologizing to them for her and her husband’s wrongdoings. She began the letter by saying she wrote it from Ikaria, a poor location. She described how she and her husband abandoned their hometown and its ideals in pursuit of monetary success.

The letter was striking because Kochilas addressed the economic and political instability in her motherland Greece, which was partly owing to her activities. “The result is Greece’s damaged position,” she remarked. The mother of two wrote the letter to accept responsibility for what she and her husband were teaching their children.

The culinary writer also explained how she bribed state officials at Piraeus’ Greek customs office to avoid a legal receipt from the market. She sought her children’s forgiveness for indulging them, not teaching them responsibility, and not teaching them that every action has a consequence. The cookbook author hoped her children wouldn’t repeat her and her husband’s mistakes.

She proposed that they inherit the correct settings and demand a reset.
