Blaxx died lately at the age of 61. Giselle Gellineau-Penrose, his manager, verified the news. Following the singer’s passing, a number of celebrities paid homage to him on social media. Carla Paris said on Facebook that he was one of her favorite Soca artists, describing him as “upbeat, lively, and joyous” and that he “created the most fantastic feelings and memories.”
Simmy De Trini, a comedian, felt that his skill was underappreciated. Rapso musician Wendell Manwarren said on Facebook that his voice is “indelibly carved into our psyche and spirit.” Others recalled him for his zeal, candor, enthusiasm, and optimism. Nigel A. Campbell described himself as an artist who could deliver at any time and in any place. The specifics of his funeral are yet to be announced.
Blaxx’s cause of death
Dexter Stewart was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Arima Hospital in east Trinidad, where he died from COVID-19 complications. He has been hospitalized since March 4. He was admitted to the hospital in October 2020 due to respiratory problems. At the time, a GoFundMe campaign was also put up on his behalf.
Career
Stewart made a name for himself as a Soca musician. Soca music, dubbed the “Soul of Calypso” by its creator Lord Shorty, is a kind of music that has impacted African and East Indian rhythms. It began in Trinidad and Tobago in the early 1970s and evolved into a variety of forms during and after the 1980s. Blaxx was originally from Trinidad & Tobago. Destra Garcia, a fellow artist, remembers several great times with him when speaking to Trinidad Express.
Stewart, she added, was one of the most adored performers to come from Trinidad and Tobago. Stewart told The Guardian in 2013 that his breakthrough did not arrive until Kurt Allen of the Roy Cape All-Stars invited him to join them. He said that he had never been wealthy and that he used to play basketball and music in the same footwear. Despite experiencing financial difficulties as a child, he remarked that he was grateful for his poverty and desired that poverty might encourage others as it did him.
Stewart began his career as a mechanic while growing up in Trinidad and Tobago’s Penal, Point Fortin, and Siparia. His father was a musician, and his mother was a vocalist who penned his first calypso. Dutty, Stewart’s debut single, was released in 2007. Popular local performers such as Ronnie McIntosh, Ester Dyer, Destra Garcia, and Olatunji Yearwood mentored him. He even gave younger and up-and-coming talents like Erphaan Alves, Sekon Sta, Teddyson John, and others a platform.
