The prominent attorney Zafaryab Jilani has passed away. On Wednesday, the senior attorney and administrator of the AIMPLB passed away. He perished following a lengthy illness.
Jilani expired in a hospital in Lucknow. The lawyer’s son informed the media of his father’s passing. Jilani’s son disclosed that his father died at a local hospital after a protracted battle with illness.

Zafaryab Jilani’s Cause of Death and Obituary
Senior Counsel Zafaryab Jilani passed away in a local hospital on 17 May 2023 after a protracted battle with an illness. Najam Zafaryab, the son of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board secretary, verified the news to PTI. According to Najam, his father passed away at 11:50 a.m. after a lengthy illness. The grieving son also disclosed that the prominent lawyer’s last rites would be conducted on Wednesday evening at the Aishbagh cemetery in Lucknow.
Jilani has been a topic of discussion for the past three decades. He did not participate in politics. Zafaryab Jilani is best known for his persistent advocacy for the Muslim side in the Ayodhya dispute. As a result of the Supreme Court’s decision, the late attorney was appointed chairman of the Babri Masjid Action Committee.
Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali is among the well-known individuals who have expressed sorrow over Jilani’s passing. Zafaryab Jilani, according to a senior cleric, contested the Babri Masjid case in multiple tribunals and served as the convener of the Babri Masjid Action Committee.
Zafaryab was also the secretary of multiple educational institutions. Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali added, “I pray to Allah that He forgives him and grants courage and strength to the people he has left behind.”
In the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case, he remained a central figure. As the coordinator of the Babri Masjid Action Committee, Senior Advocate Jilani argued before the Supreme Court in the Ram Janmabhoomi case. He had previously served as the Additional Attorney General of Uttar Pradesh.

Najam Zafaryab, son of Zafaryab Jilani, stated that his father passed away after a protracted illness. Zafaryab Jilani, secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, suffered a brain hemorrhage in May 2021 and was confined to the Medanta Hospital in Lucknow. The family of the senior attorney disclosed that he was hurried to the hospital after slipping and falling. A portion of his time was spent in the hospital.
“His treatment has begun, and doctors say his condition is stable for the time being,” he added. They have indicated that he may require surgery, but he is currently stable,” the lawyer’s nephew told the Indian Express.
Although the lawyer’s cause of death is not a brain hemorrhage, his health seems to have deteriorated after suffering a brain hemorrhage in 2021.
