David Platt was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from Georgia University with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism. He later went to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He holds several degrees, including an M.Div, a Ph.D., and a Th.M. He became Dean of Chapel at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary after finishing his doctorate.
