In 1970, he wrote a semi-autobiographical play called ‘Lakeboar.’ Similarly, he later appeared as a writer in plays such as ‘The Duck Variations’ in 1972, ‘Sexual Perversity in Chicago’ and ‘Squirrels’ in 1974, ‘American Buffalo’ in 1975, and ‘The Water Engine’ in 1976. He also wrote ‘A Life in the Theatre,’ ‘The Woods,’ and ‘Mr. Happiness,’ all in 1977. In 1980, Mamet wrote a revised version of ‘Lakeboat.’ He also wrote the plays ‘Edmond’ and ‘The Frog Prince’ in 1982, as well as ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ in 1983.
