The Early Years
David Johnson went to Clinton High School in Clinton, Iowa. He was a three-sport standout in football, track, and basketball. He was a running back and defensive back for the River Kings in high school. David set a number of school records. Among these records are:

As a senior, Johnson led Clinton to an 11–1 record. In addition, he set a school record with 42 touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named Clinton’s Outstanding Offensive Player in 2009. In four seasons, Johnson amassed an impressive 4,682 rushing yards. In addition, he had 49 rushing touchdowns to go along with 1,734 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns. He also appeared in the 2010 Shrine Bowl All-Star Game, where he demonstrated excellent vision and speed. Throughout high school, Johnson maintained a GPA of at least 3.0.

Career in College
From 2010 to 2014, David Johnson attended Northern Iowa College. In 2010, he was redshirted. In addition, he appeared in 13 games and started five of them. In 2011, he was a redshirt freshman and played in those games. In games, he had 179 rushes for 822 yards and nine rushing touchdowns. In addition, he had 33 receptions for 422 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson appeared in seven of twelve games as a sophomore in 2012.
As a junior, Johnson started 10 of 11 games. He also rushed for 1,286 yards on 222 attempts. As a senior, Johnson rushed for 1,553 yards on 287 carries and scored 17 rushing touchdowns. In addition, he returned 12 kickoffs for 438 yards and a touchdown. During his college years, Johnson set a number of school records. Career
The Arizona Cardinals selected Johnson as the 86th overall in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Furthermore, he was the seventh running back chosen in that year’s draft. The Arizona Cardinals had originally planned to draft Ameer Abdullah. However, they discovered that he had signed with the Detroit Lions as a second-round pick. Therefore, they chose David Johnson. In addition, he is the second-highest drafted player from Northern Iowa after Brad Meester.
