David Yutaka Ige (born January 15, 1957) is the eighth governor of Hawaii in the United States. He formerly served as a Democrat in the Hawaii State Senate. In the 2014 gubernatorial election, he defeated incumbent Governor Neil Abercrombie in the Democratic primary and Republican contender Duke Aiona in the general election. In 2018, he was re-elected.

David Ige’s Career
While working for GTE Hawaiian Tel after college, Ige attended graduate classes at UH and received a Master of Business Administration degree in decision sciences. In 1986, Hawaii Business Magazine recognized him as one of the top ten MBA students at the university. Before becoming governor of Hawaii, Ige worked as a project manager for Robert A. Ige and Associates, Inc., as Vice President of Engineering at NetEnterprise, and as a senior principal engineer at Pihana Pacific, which built Hawaii’s first world-class data center and carrier-neutral Internet exchange.
He formerly worked with GTE Hawaiian Tel for over 18 years as an engineer. Because of the rising severity of the homelessness problem, Ige proclaimed a state of emergency in October 2015.
President Trump selected Ige to the nonpartisan Council of Governors on February 22, 2019, where he will serve as co-chair.
