David Michael Burtka was born in Dearborn, Michigan on May 29, 1975. Daniel Burtka and Deborah A. Zajas are his parents. The actor grew up in Canton, Michigan. Salem High School awarded him his high school diploma in 1993.
He later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan. Burtka also studied acting at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. He has also attended the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Pasadena to train as a professional chef.
