Raiders fire General Manager Dave Ziegler and Head Coach Josh McDaniels.
Raiders fire General Manager Dave Ziegler and Head Coach Josh McDaniels. The Raiders made a surprising late-night move by firing both head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. In a statement, team owner Mark Davis said,
“After much consideration of what the Raiders require to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave.” I want to thank them both for their efforts and wish them and their families all the best.”
The decision comes after the Raiders’ 26-14 loss to Detroit on “Monday Night Football,” their second straight loss, bringing their record to 3-5. Davis appointed McDaniels and Ziegler in January 2022, both of whom were affiliated with the Patriots organization. McDaniels was in his second season as New England’s offensive coordinator, and Ziegler was the team’s director of player personnel.
To fill the void, the Raiders have named linebackers coach Antonio Pierce as interim head coach. They also announced that Champ Kelly, the current assistant general manager, will serve as interim GM. Furthermore, the Raiders have stated that they intend to conduct an extensive search for a new permanent head coach and general manager after the 2023 season.
