Darren finished sixth in the state of Indiana as a freshman and qualified for the state competition as a sophomore. In his junior year, he finished third, and as a senior, he was named State Champion. Darren Elkins made his UFC debut against Duane Ludwig, whom he beat by TKO in the second round. Following that, he fought in the UFC, where he defeated Michihiro Omigawa (June 11, 2011), Zhang Tiequan (October 8, 2011), Diego Brando (May 26, 2012), Steven Siler (November 17, 2012), and Antonio Carvalho (March 16, 2013), among others.
