Dan went to the University of Maryland, College Park. He played in 10 games as a freshman, breaking Hall of Famer Randy White’s record. He was a backup for Maryland’s 1983 Atlantic Coast Conference championship squad. He was then moved to the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio, and then to the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, in 1984.

Career
Dan spent his entire NFL career as a backup and special teamer, although he made his regular-season debut in 1987. In 1992, he attempted to return to the World League of American Football to play with the Orlando Thunder. He was a member of the Las Vegas Sting, for whom he was named honorable mention All-League and helped lead the team to the playoffs. He was employed by Cowboy Bob Orton in 1993 and trained in Atlanta. He wrestled for the Catch Wrestling Association in Vienna, Austria, as Bonecrusher Sileo. He was then signed by New Japan Pro Wrestling and competed in the Tokyo Dome.
Dan began his radio career after being recruited as a sports anchor on the morning program Dunbar and Rosie on 810 KGO San Francisco. He then went on to another local station, 680 KNBR, where he presented Sportsphone 68. In 1998, he relocated to Tampa and began doing the morning program on 620 WDAE. In 2000, he presented The Dan Sileo Show from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. One of his longest runs was as the morning drive host on 620 WDAE in Tampa. He was recruited by San Diego’s The Mighty 1090 AM XEPRS in February 2014 to host the morning program from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. In January 2018, Sileo quit The Mighty at 1090 AM for the new chat program The Machine. Similarly, IHeartMedia recruited him in August 2019 to broadcast afternoons on Sports 910 KGME in Phoenix.
