The 23rd Fighter Squadron performed approximately 1,000 defensive suppression, combat air patrol, and interdiction missions over Iraq without a single casualty. For its role in forcing the Iraqi army out of Kuwait, the squadron received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor.
