Dan began his musical career in Victoria, Canada, where he was a member of various bands, including Atlas Strategic. He has since worked on projects with Spoon frontman Britt Daniel, including Handsome Fus and Divine Fits. Dan and singer John Pollard co-founded the well-known British Columbia band Atlas Strategic in 2000, and their first album Rapture, Ye Minions was subsequently published.
Boeckner and his then-fiancee Alexei Perry established the Handsome Furs in 2005. Plague Park released their first album in 2007 after signing with Sub Pop Records.
