Jerrod Carmichael, star of Neighbors (2014) and stand-up comedian, came out as homosexual in his current HBO special, Rothaniel, which premiered on April 1. Carmichael will also host an SNL episode for the first time the next day, on Saturday. Previously, during a filmed interview with his mother in a 2019 HBO special, the comedian alluded to his sexual orientation. Carmichael, on the other hand, dedicated a substantial amount of his 55-minute stand-up special to discussing his s*xuality.
Carmichael said in a recent special:
“I had a little secret. One I kept hidden from my father, mother, family, friends, and you – all of you. Both professionally and emotionally. And the truth is that I am homosexual.”

All about Jerrod Carmichael
Although most people recognize the North Carolina native as Garf from the Neighbors duology, Jerrod Carmichael has been a stand-up comedian since 2008. Carmichael made his comic debut at the age of 20 after coming to Los Angeles. Following his breakthrough performance in the R-rated comedy Neighbors, Carmichael participated in his first HBO Max comedy special, directed by the renowned Spike Lee. Jerrod Carmichael: Love at the Store, a special that aired the same year as the film, helped raise his mainstream reputation. Jerrod Carmichael and his family had to struggle with financial restraints as children, which is typically the center of his stand-up routines. Carmichael’s second stand-up special, 8, was directed by acclaimed comedian Bo Burnham, who also directed Rothaniel, Carmichael’s most recent special.
The comedian also co-created and starred in his own comedic TV series, The Carmichael Show, which NBC picked up in 2015. The sitcom aired for three seasons and 32 episodes, and it has an 87 percent rating on RottenTomatoes. Later, he co-produced Rel, a comedy written by Lil Rel Howery and Kevin Barnett that was picked up by Fox. However, after just one year on the air, the program was canceled. The actor and comedian have also worked on projects where he contributed significantly to the screenplay and production. Throughout his career, Carmichael has produced around 14 projects, with about 12 of them being written by him. In addition, he has appeared in 21 projects, including stand-up specials, films, and music videos.
Quentin Tarantino hired Jerrod Carmichael in 2019 to co-write a Django/Zorro film based on the 2014 comic of the same name. At the same time, the writer and comedian were working on the plot for the revival of the original 1982 film, 48 Hours. Jerrod Carmichael is projected to be engaged in numerous comedy specials and feature projects in the future, given his broad history since 2014’s Neighbors.
