When it comes to Chucky Atkins’ work, he has been involved in the competitive basketball game since 1996 and resigned in 2010. He was overlooked in the 1996 NBA draft, so he began playing professionally in 1996 with the La Crosse Bobcats of the CBA. From 1997 to 1999, he was a member of the Croatian team Cibona Zagreb. Chucky made his NBA debut in 1999 after being chosen by the Orlando Magic, where he averaged 9 points and 4 assists per game.
He then joined the Detroit Pistons before being dealt to the Boston Celtics in return for Mike James. He was dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2004 in return for Gary Payton. In the 2005 summer, he was dealt to the Washington Wizards, but he was shortly dismissed. He joined the Memphis Grizzlies on January 23, 2006, to replace the ailing Damon Stoudamire. Atkins joined the Denver Nuggets in July 2007, but he was unable to participate in most of the games due to a groin injury.
He was moved to the Oklahoma City Thunder on January 7, 2009, and then to the Minnesota Timberwolves on July 27, 2009. Chucky was dismissed from the club on September 22, 2009, and joined the Detroit Pistons, where he appeared in nearly 40 games. He joined the Phoenix Suns on September 27, 2010, but was waived on October 11, 2010. He then withdrew from competitive basketball and began coaching at his alma mater high school.
