Christie Blatchford was born on May 20, 1951, in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada. Blatchford was of Canadian descent and practiced Christianity. In terms of family history, she was the daughter of Ross Blatchford (Father) and Kathleen Blatchford. (Mother). During WWII, her father managed a hockey facility in Noranda while fighting in the Royal Canadian Air Force. When Blatchford was in grade 11, his father was named superintendent of the North Toronto Memorial Arena, and the family moved to Toronto. In terms of schooling, she finished at North Toronto Collegiate Institute in 1970. She subsequently entered Ryerson University to study writing and started working for The Ryersonian, the campus publication.

She then abruptly moved to the competitor Toronto Star, where she had covered crime cases since 1978 as a story reporter from 1977 to 1982. In an attempt to transition from news writer to editor, she proposed a light-hearted piece to the Toronto Sun in 1982. Despite getting less money than she did at the Star, the Sun took the deal. After Paul Rimstead died in 1987, her piece was moved from the recreation section to the conspicuous page 5 feature column space. After 16 years at the Sun, where she covered high-profile cases such as those of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, Blatchford returned to news reporting and harder news stories in the late 1990s.
Career
Blatchford was identified with lung cancer in November 2019 after her job documenting the 2019 federal election campaign was cut short due to chronic muscular discomfort. By the time the illness was found, it had expanded to the hip and spinal bones. Blatchford was inducted into the Canadian News Hall of Fame the following month, but she was unable to make the event.
She took a leave of absence from her blog to attend treatment at the Princess Margaret Cancer Institute, where she endured several months of surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. She died in Toronto on February 12, 2020.
