Christi Paul, co-host of CNN’s New Day Weekend show, announced her retirement from the network on Sunday, June 26th, after the merger of its parent company Warner Media with Discovery. Paul has worked for CNN and its sister station, HLN, for over two decades. While on-air for the last time with CNN, Paul announced that she will be returning to Ohio and working for a local station there. The anchor is from Bellevue, Ohio, which explains her decision to return there. According to sources, Paul’s participation in the program on Sunday’s edition will be her last. Meanwhile, Variety reports that a variety of anchors will take turns anchoring the program with Boris Sanchez.
What a beautiful and very personal goodbye to @CNN from our colleague @Christi_Paul who’s heading back home to Ohio. Thanks for all the wonderful years with us and good luck. We will miss you. And thanks @brianstelter for sharing. https://t.co/67cRIVrK5w

The reasons behind Christi Paul’s resignation from CNN
Christi Paul explained her departure to the audience and co-hosted Boris Sanchez on Sunday’s broadcast. The 53-year-old news anchor responded emotionally, saying:
“I am a participant in the Great Resignation.”
Following her announcement, CNN’s lead media reporter, Brian Stelter, announced the news on Twitter. Meanwhile, award-winning journalist and CNN senior producer Bethany Crudele rushed to Twitter to voice her disappointment at Paul’s leaving. Crudele noted in her tweet:
“This morning on New Day, it’s a melancholy day. @Christi Paul’s final day on our program is today.”
Christi Paul said that she had intended to leave as early as January of this year. The co-host also said that her CNN program was on early in the morning, which cut into her family time. She continued, saying:
“My husband and I both glanced at one other and said, ‘We need to go back home…’ I was sick of feeling exhausted.”
Christi Paul announced to her former co-host Boris Sanchez that she would be looking for a position at a small news station in Ohio. However, neither CNN nor Paul revealed the identity of the station. In terms of her new workplace, AdWeek said that the Ohio native will reveal the specifics of her next professional move in the following week.
Christi Paul’s legacy.
After working as a reporter for WDTV and KTVB, the co-anchor joined Warner Media’s network in 2003 and spent many years hosting shows on CNN and HLN. Later, the broadcast journalism graduate worked as a backup anchor for Robin Meade’s Morning Express. Paul co-hosted the CNN news program New Day Weekend for nearly nine years during her time at CNN. Following the announcement of her resignation from the network, it is clear why the anchor is departing. According to Paul’s reasoning, the 53-year-old co-host wishes to spend more time with her family in Ohio, which includes her three kids, husband Peter Paul, and others.
