Career
Since 2014, Chris Segal has worked as a part-time MLB umpire. He formerly played catcher and outfield for the St. Mary’s baseball team. Throughout his career, Segal won various trophies, including the Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year, Coaches Award, and St. Mary’s Athletic Director’s Award. During his collegiate years, he started his umpiring career. He worked in northern Virginia and St. Mary’s country at different times.
Following graduation, he lost little time in starting his career, enrolling in the Jim Evans Academy for professional umpiring in 2006. After that, he advanced to Triple-A and began to be assessed by big league managers. Chris was asked to umpire in the ‘Arizona Fall League’ and was then invited to work Spring Training in 2010. In 2014, he piqued the interest of big league executives and was given a major league number to act as a call-up umpire. On April 14, 2014, he worked his first MLB game as a call-up umpire. He also got the chance to umpire for three months in the Dominican Republic, which was an incredible experience.
