Chris Hayes Biography
Chris Hayes was born on February 28, 1979. His birthplace was Norwood in New York City’s Bronx. He was the third of three baby boys born to Roger, an Irishman from the Catholic dominion. Roger is his father. Geri Hayes, his mother, was of Italian and American descent.
Roger studied at the Jesuit Seminary and organized community service projects in the Bronx. His father used to work for a community service organization, but he now works for the New York City Health Department as an assistant commissioner.
His mother also works for NYC, but she specializes in education because she was a teacher in the past. Chris attended New York City’s Hunter College High School. He later attended Brown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He worked with Production Workshop, a student theater group, while still at Brown. Chris was raised in the Catholic faith.

Chris Hayes began his career as a journalist in August of 2001. He was a contributor to the weekly independent newspaper Chicago Reader for four years. Hayes covered both national and local politics in this column. At the end of 2003, he became a senior editor of a labor-focused magazine based in Chicago that was published monthly. It was called In These Times, and he had started a four-year stint there. Chris worked as a writer for a variety of news organizations beginning in 2006, including the Puffin Foundation, The National Institute, and The Nation.
On November 1, 2007, he was hired as an editor in Washington, DC, to replace David Corn. He wrote about government issues and the evolution of the Labor Movement. July Hayes visited Afghanistan in 2010 and appeared as a guest on the Rachael Maddow Show. He also appeared on other MSNBC shows.
