Choi Jung-hoon, a current active member of the South Korean indie rock band JANNABI, made a formal apology for the band’s behavior during the 2022 Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival on August 6. On August 7, the singer apologized to the other artists and their fans for the inconvenience caused by his “careless statements.”

The band member was caught in a dispute about his conduct, with many accusing him of being nasty to other performers. In response, the Take My Hand crooner apologized and promised that the band will be more cautious in picking the correct words to express their message in the future:

“Standing on the stage of our dreams in front of a fantastic crowd, we couldn’t contain our enthusiasm and caused discomfort to other bands and fans with reckless remarks.” We didn’t intend it that way, but we didn’t understand it might be interpreted that way. We will take care not to repeat this error in the future. Thank you for coming!”

What did Choi Jung-hoon of JANNABI say during the 2022 Pentaport Rock Festival?

JANNABI, a prominent indie rock band, is one of several acts set to appear at the 2022 Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival. The festival’s lineup includes Nell, Vampire Weekend, JAURIM, Japanese Breakfast, and others. The festival’s headliner, the American rock band Vampire Weekend, was set to play following JANNABI. According to allkpop, some South Korean netizens chastised JANNABI’s Choi Jung-hoon for his remarks. Everything was OK until the singer reminisced about the group’s lowly beginnings, at which point everything began to go apart. Choi Jung-hoon is quoted as saying:

“We began as the Pentaport super rookies in 2017, and we were the very first act on the smallest stage.” But, one step at a time, we made it all the way here. The obstacle was not far distant… We have no idea who the next band will be… Everyone, please go home now. We’re going to perform ‘Come Back Home,’ our song, and then we’re going to depart.”

Some even claimed that JANNABI played an unplanned encore, which caused Vampire Weekend to be late. JANNABI presently consists of three individuals. However, the band’s guitarist, Kim Do-Hyung, enrolled in the military in June 2020, while the bassist, Jang Kyung-Joon, enlisted in January 2021. Choi Jung-hoon, the band’s lead vocalist, continues to promote the band via his solo efforts.

After two years, the 2022 Pentaport Rock Festival reopened with a BTS member in attendance.

The Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival is one of the largest rock events in South Korea. While it incorporates folk and emo music, it mostly concentrates on rock and electronic music. This year’s event also had a BTS member in the crowd.

BTS’s leader RM shared images of himself lounging on the lawn of the Songdo Moonlight Festival Park with the Incheon Pentaport stage in full splendor in front of him on August 7. He also shared a photo with the alternative K-pop group Balming Tiger, who are good friends with BTS’s frontman. The festival’s comeback with an offline stage also made headlines, since it had been held online for the previous two years owing to the epidemic. The event took place on August 5th and 7th, 2022.
