Career
Kathleen first appeared in London versions of Andy Warhol’s play ‘Pork’ under the stage name Cherry Vanilla. Tony Ingrassia directed the play. She participated in a number of other theatrical productions before joining MainMan LTD as David Bowie’s publicist in the early 1970s. During her tenure with David Bowie, Kathleen became recognized for her crazy marketing methods. One of the strange things she made was an open invitation to have oral sex on any DJ who played Bowie’s music.
She was successful in her career and didn’t mind going the additional mile to get it. Her relationship with David Bowie ended in 1974. She subsequently founded her first band under her own name, followed by ‘Cherry Vanilla & her Staten Island Band’ in 1976. Members include Buddy John Vierno (bass guitar), Frank La Rocca (drums), Thomas Morrongiello (guitar), and Gary Cohen (keyboard). The band’s debut recording was “Shake Your Ashes,” which appeared on Max’s 1976 album Kansas City.
Kathleen was signed to RCA Records, and the Cherry Vanilla Band was created in London. Before splitting, the band released the albums ‘Bad Girl’ and ‘Venus D’Vinyl’.
